A Clinical Observation of the Congenital Anomaly


Abstract
A clinical review of 160 cases of congenital anomalies in infant and children under the age of 15 who were admitted to Department of Surgery, Choongnam National University Hospital from Jan. 1969 to Mar. 1975, was performed.
Those who belong to orthopedics, neuro-surgery and plastic surgery were not` included in this series.
1. The annual average number of surgical patients of congenital anomalies was 26 cases, about 40.3% of the annual admission to pediatric surgery.
.2.¢¥ The sex distribution was 117 males (73.1%) to 43 females (26.9%). The largest number of cases was infants (40.6%).
3. The frequent congenital anomalies were intussusception (26.2%), inguinrl hernia (19.3%), hemangioma (8.1%), congenital megacolon (6.2%), imperforated anus (6.2%) and hydrocele (5.6%).
4. The post-operative complication rate was 7.3% (11 cases), mainly due to wound infection and anal stricture.
5. The operative mortality rate was 9.3% (14 cases).
